For those members who would like a sharpening system like the Sorby Proedge then Aldi have one in stock for sale at £29.99. On one side is a grinder and the other side a belt. It comes complete with 3 belts.
I have never used the Aldi one but some members on here have one and they say they are good so I suppose at £29.99 you can't go wrong.

Last year they had one similar, but instead of the grinding wheel they had a disc sander 6 or 8 inch, I missed it last year so am hoping they do it again.

That would probably be a better bet Peter but the trouble with Aldi is that you can never guarantee that they will get them in again.!!!

That's for sure, I was away when they had it last year so I missed it. I can't see the one you are talking about, I think that was a couple of weeks ago wasn't it?

I can't find it on the website

No, it was on the 2nd or 4th of July, so any in the stores now are the ones that didn't sell that week.

Have you seen it Peter? What about jigs for sharpening tools especially gouges with finger nail grind

No, only the picture on the website, you can see it here, I want the other one with a disk sander and a belt sander to make it into a dedicated blank sander for the ends and a quick touch up for the skew on the belt sander.

According to my wife it was advertised as being in the stores from the 6th and the one I was in today had about 6 or 7 stocked on their shelves. They normally advertise on Thursdays and Sundays !!!

I think there is a time delay of a couple of days between Sarf and norf innit :ave_it::ave_it:

It's all about the jigs and how much extra it'll cost to buy them and would the sorby jigs for the pro edge fit? What about replacement belts, the pro edge belts are not ordinary sanding belts what I've seen of them at turners retreat

LOL. You can always pop into one of their shops as they will keep them in for a week !!!:ciggrin::ciggrin:

Only if they haven't sold their allocation, but I don't want one, I will wait for the other one with my fingers crossed that they will do them again:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Jigs probably won't fit, after all this is just a bench grinder with a reducer,I have a simple jig to fit this that will do my roughing gouge, spindle, detailing, bowls and parting tools and my scraper gets done on the other wheel on a flat rest.

Belts shouldn't be a problem,I imagine sorby belts arent anything special.

I do believe the belts can be bought quite readily online Ray. The belt lengths are quoted on the side of the box. Ed Lea might be the person to ask as i think he has this system !!!

Nothing from Sorby is ever going to fit the Aldi crap, you get what you pay for usually

This is a Work Zone tool which is the same as many others with different labels. But you are right the Sorby jigs won't fit without adaptation.
Matty is also right that jigs can be easily made for the same applications as the Sorby or any other.
As for crap and getting what you pay for, that may well be the case but we ain't all millionaires, I have one and if it only lasts the warranty life it will have paid for itself init?
Belts can be bought in any size and grade from many suppliers.

The sorby is a posh belt grinder,it's the jigs and belts that make it so appealing, adapt those for your aldi special and you've got a functional sharpening setup and saved 100s.
