Well everyone my first Craft Fair is over, what an experience, it started of really slow, no sales in 2hours and I thought what a waste of time. Then at 11.30 it went mad.I sold out of all my stylus pens and by 4 pm closing time 2/3rd of my pens had gone. The number of people asking me if I will be back in December For The Christmas Fair was very encouraging. I can see for the next 5 weeks living in my little workshop making pens and more pens.
Thanks to all those on this forum who gave me confidence in having a go especially Neil who had the courage to take me with him on one of his stalls at a fair and showed me so much.

As long as you've enjoyed yourself and made a couple of bob then you've had a good day.

Congratulations on your first fair. I have been thinking of doing one but not taken the plunge, partly because I don't have time to make enough pens. Out of interest, how many pens did you put on your display and did you have back up stock to replenish the display?:nooidea:

Well done Glen, I'm so pleased that it was all worth while and having been shown the ropes by the master you had a head start to delve into the punters pockets. Role on the next one :thumbs:

Have a go, you are making excuses just like me. Wanting to have a go but not sure what the outcome would be.
The show was a 1 day event ( I don't think I would last out at these 2 and 3 day events beside I don't want to take a mortgage out to pay for the tables) It was held in a church hall with about 20 tables measuring 6ft x 2.5 ft. I had no idea how many pens I would need, so out of fresh air I decided on a 100. I didn't achieve for 2 reasons, I got fed up with PENS AND MORE PENS and the other reason I started to rush them, my standard dropped and I started making mistakes. ( Into the bin they went ). I finished up with 50 pens in 10 stands.
The display wasn't bad but I feel there is room for improvement. For the December show I am aiming once again to have 100 pens but to be honest I will be happy with even 75. I didn't have any spare pens with me.
What you need is a good sales team, I had in the morning my wife with me as I don't make a very good salesman, in the afternoon I had my granddaughter with me. They gave out info sheets with the opening verbal conversation ( my husband make these pens from real wood in his little shed or in the case of my granddaughter, my granddad make these from real wood) It was amazing how people stopped to have a chat and in a lot of cases a sale was done. People just didn't believe that I had made them they thought I had bought them in.:
Ray have a go before Christmas and for Christmas presents .
Let me know how you get on.

Glen, thanks for the info, most useful. I need to find out where local fairs are being held round here.
