Yes it is ,hard to find cut this way because the medullary rays form separations you can not see until you cut or stress the blank. The log pictured had been cut nearly 40 yrs ago and I was able to get lots of blanks such as this pen from it.
In an effort to help someone on this forum I sent one of these and others to the UK,they incurred a lot of extra costs unknown to me resulting in a bad scene for me I will not forget. I sent them free,the receiver incurred extra costs. I did state the true value of the blanks,doesn,t everyone? So I will not ever get involved personally again.
You can see why its called Hairy Oak the bark mostly gone now is a thick carpet of hair like bark. It rarely is found in nature as round in shape as this piece.
