Amalgam blanks

Just a quick question regarding amalgam. Is this more akin to polyurethane or polyester resin? I got an amalgam blank from Vince at Turners Workshop and when I was drilling it today, the swarf seemed more like polyester to me. My concerns are really about how brittle amalgam is.

Yep, it's hard, very hard in fact. It's what dentis use to fill the holes in ya teeth.

Yikes, hard is not good, I need to make it in closed end for a customer. It's very gaudy

Amalgam just means a blend it certainly isn't the Amalgam with mercury that dentists use.

Amalgum stirrs up memories of Mercury and pain.

Brittleness is a result of mix methods/time sometimes, when turning I treat them all as suspect proceeding with extreme care.

Amalgum makes me think of wood and resin.
