Well, what a waste of electric, a more boring piece of timber you couldn't find.

So decided to play with Melamine lacquer and burnishing cream for the practice.

American blanks walnut can be very plan but I have seen bit which are nice w have two rifles in California black walnut stock and the wood is highly figured

Looks very well made Phill, but you're right walnut it can be quite bland.

I turn it quite a lot as I get offcuts but you need to incorporate a bit of design to lift it, these had a bit of grain showing in them but would have been lost on a pen.

I use Walnut on inlays or segmenting, but the wood doesn't take away the well turned pen ... :thumbs:

i will have to get some pics of the rifle stock i helped build for my dad it is such a nice piece and he got given two but the finish is nice

Each piece of wood has its own natural beauty this piece being no different in that respect.
I am sure in the flesh it still looks pooh and should be taken back to brass and redone :lmao::lmao:

For me Walnut is a mixed blessing brilliant pieces of American Walnut abound, smells like you stood in something foul polishes beautifully, more ideal for gun butts , rifle timber where the squirrily grain can be admired best and yes your pen has its place as well. Without saying to others put it with other wooden pens and show them someone will surely home in on that one.
