Kit : Modern Streamline

Wood : Well matured Xcut English Oak .

The wood was obtained from an original roof beam in a building constructed in 1620 which in fact places the the growing tree at least back to Tudor times. To say the wood was hard is an understatement ,it was like cutting mild steel ..thank goodness I had my 'Woody tool' to tackle it.

Finished with grits to 600 , six coats CA/BLO, micromesh and buffed with brown paper.

Much better looking in the flesh Brody ...the chatoyancy of the wood doesn't show in the photo.

You have done real well turning this wood Ed, it is hard enough when turning wood that is as tough as old boots, but X-Cut as well generally adds more problems..

Looks very nice indeed Sir, love the finish .. :winking:

Ed,

What did the buffing with brown paper do after polishing with micromesh?

Brown paper will do the same as burnishing with shavings just another way to burnish and what a lovely job as well

Very beautiful timber and a smashing job of turning and finishing. Nice story too. You should create a 'certificate of provenance' type thingy to include in the sale, people love something with a story attached.
