It can happen especially if you have a very "sooty" spalting or any torn / open grain. You can minimalize it by using a very thinned down Cellulose sanding sealer.
Very nice Neil. Nice piece of wood with well defined spalting. I agree with the thinned sealer I always buy my sealer un-thinned and mix as needed for the job in hand
