This was supposed to be for me but I don't like it so will probably sell it on where I go to fish. Specifically I think the tiger bamboo is too fussy on a kit with that much detail and maybe should be a much plainer wood or even antler or horn. I'm not sure I like the kit either but being a keen fly fisherman I had to try it.

The bamboo is a sod to turn so won't be wasting effort turning it off down to the tube and re using.

I wish I hadn't read your own self-critique really Bob, because actually my initial thought when I first opened the thread was that finally there was a themed kit that seemed to look quite nice. You seem to have glued two pieces of the bamboo together, which maybe detracts from it, but apart from that it looks non too fussy for the kit from where I'm sitting.

Exactly my thoughts Phil, too fussy.
The blank is cut from a chopping board I bought in Sydney and the join wasn't obvious until I started turning otherwise I might have rejected it. I'm having second thoughts and might well turn it off and recover the tube. Not going to rush into it though until the pain of turning crosscut bamboo has died down a little.

Sometimes ago i've turned some bamboo from my garden, it turns out very well

Good contrast between natural bamboo cut with the grain Clement and breadboard bamboo cut across the grain as in Bobs. Hard work Bob but I like the pen. I agree cross cut bamboo is a mongrel.

I have to say the themed pens don't really do it for me, but the blank is quite nice, and well turned.
