Another Chevron Finial/blank

These were started for two different projects earlier this year before I started having eye floater issues. I was happy to get back and actually finish the pen. A bit rusty with tool control, but worked out OK.

It was nice to get some shop time. The vision issues will simply be an adjustment - I have no complaints with my lot in the card draw. I was very happy to be able to do the finial. Wifey snatched the pen and I have no idea where it went! So all is just fine.

Hello Mark, great looking pen.
I have a question.
Your chevrons are on 3 sides of the pen----- did you cut the channels for the chevrons on an indexing ring on the lathe with a router or some other way?
Always a pleasure looking at your pens and glad that you are back in the shop.

You are correct Alan. I have "Frankie!" (Short for Frankenstein). It is a 1950's Atlas Clausing metal lathe that had the motor removed, a heavy duty indexing plate welded to the headstock, and a trim router mounted. Cuts very accurate slots though.

There are a bunch more pictures of constructing the finial, but basically I use leftover inlays and sanded to a 120 degree point, and added the walnut corner pieces.

Am mesmerised after working with tight strong timbers for so long to find your great results and seeing eye as you obviously have. Right way up, collet held,entranced I looked up info and yes I have made my own version twenty years ago or more settling for hexs and other shapes in pens. Been travelling rough for a while now,hope to pass through the tough stuff ready to play again.A bloke at the old named working with wood show has acres of this material at sale prices a week ago,you need dry flat storage so I let it go past me this time.
