Hi All,
Complete newby to woodturning - based on Ayrshire coast - Scotland.
I have just retired at 73 yrs old & decided to take up woodturning - initially pens/pencils
I have a Jet JML 1041 which I hope to be using for the pen work.
Having said that it doesn't have a chuck & I am not sure of the Headstock tread for chuck, but I think it's 1" not sure on number of threads - can anyone please advise ??

Looking forward to try & participate - but only as newby
Regards
Bob

Hello and welcome Bob, I think your lathe may have 1" X 8tpi thread according to the WWW. This forum is a great place for new and old turners alike, enjoy.

Hi All,

I have just retired at 73 yrs old

Someone has to live there Bob:winking:

Anyway, Old, at that age it puts you amongst some of the youngest on here:wink: so I would say 73 yrs young. But don't tell anyone I said that on here as they get a bit grumpy..:funny:

Having said that it doesn't have a chuck & I am not sure of the Headstock tread for chuck, but I think it's 1" not sure on number of threads - can anyone please advise ??

Yes I think it's 1" 8tpi Bob, just need to confirm that before you shell out, which as a living in Scots country you will do the Scott's tradition proud and check, check and check before you spend anything..

But yes you will get an adaptor for that easily for most chucks on the market.

Looking forward to try & participate - but only as newby
Regards
Bob

It's no matter if you are a newby here, we all have a break away from it and feel like a total plonker never mind newbie.
Sometimes I stand in front of the lathe and think "WTF have I done that for" :goesred:

Enjoy your new found skills and look forward to seeing some pens.

Welcome Bob, from a fellow Scot, living in Fife but raised as a Weejie. I've been retired for a couple of years now, but I didn't wait as long as you have:goesred:

Since 1955 wTF for me means what the folly, I came back from full time Army asked me Mum to pass the F butter, a nasty moment I must have mumbled cause neither my Mum or Dad stirred, but lesson learned. Anyway however you dress it I felt familiar with your expression.

Peter.
