Been busy in the shed today. Turned two pens and one bowl.

Here is the first offering. Wych Elm on an Axminster Americana kit.

Main issue I have with this is that I didn't notice until I finished the pen that the botton tume is 2.5mm shorter than it should be. This means the pen doesn't retract fully and comes out way too far. I will be taknig it and a good one to Axminster on Saturday for a rant

Nice pen apart from the nib issue. Can't you push the mechanism back out a touch so that the nib fully retracts?

Can't do that with these kits Dave, it's a Parker refill kit, not a 7mm cross refill kit. The mechanism screws on to the top of the lower tube, the dim of the lower tube is critical.

A nice piece of wood and turned very nicely. Its a pity about the tube length, this is the first time I've seen this kit and I'm not sure I like it but would like to see one full length which apart from being right for the mechanism, might also be right for the eye.

2.5mm is a bit much to be short by init?
Did you maybe trim to much off when squaring ends?
A salvage would be to shorten the refill by 2.5mm I have had to do this many times.
This is what Axminster will suggest, trying to shift blame from manufacturer to user before having to replace the kit so be ready with your answers.
Once again these are not the best of kits, an old design and probably old stock.

It's a nice finish, shame about the short tube and they are not a very cheap kit, insist on a replacement.

Nope, just kissed the brass
Could trim refill I guess, but if I kept the pen I'd have to do that every time it needed replacing
Oh I am ready for Axminster's excuses.
