I wanted to put brass bands... no!.... brass BANDS and this is the result. I mixed the dust with a bit of ash sawdust so that it would set. I had to get the grinder out as the finish was so hard to sand.

Thanks all, I bought a pot of this brass dust for a few quid on ebay. I'm not sure how many times I'll use it because of how hard it is but who knows. I bought a pot of aluminium oxide too but that's for next weekend.

I like the bands, they look really good and well finished..,, but... I'm not sure about the bottom nib end bit...sorry, it looks a little odd. and would have looked better in a different colour all together or cut with matching grain.. It's only through my eyes tho Paul..

Thank you for your opinion, I agree with you entirely. I only set out to have a play and see what it would turn out like. The wood is a single piece but I think the heat from the brass turned the top piece a darker colour. Initially the nib end was covered in brass too but it didn't look that good.

I think you are all right, and its very easy to change being a longwood, so next weekend, it'll be done

Great attitude Paul, the nib end doesn't look right, but it doesn't take away what you have done with the pen, the bands do look good for sure ...
