Hello folks

I hope this is in the right place

here is an ash hollow form that I have made recently.

its 6 1/2" wide by 5" tall and is part of the "lightning ash" project I am currently working on, which is a huge ash tree i bought a few months ago which was hit by lightning and has unusual figure.

Ah, classic Watkins. I've missed your pieces on the WWI forum of late. Had to make do with the AWGB mag which is not quite the same.

Keep them coming, I'm a fan of your work

thanks, i haven't got any pics of this piece being made but these pics of an ash vase being made show the basic process

after chainsawing it starts between centres

roughed into a cylinder and one end is cut with a slight concave to take a faceplate

the top 2/3rds of the form, are shaped, leaving extra material at the base to add strength during hollowing

top 2/3rds shaped and ready to hollow

after hollowing, i shape the bottom 1/3rd and sand the piece, its then parted off and allowed to dry slowly over a couple of weeks before being oiled.

here's the finished vase

hope this helps
