Paul my sniffer only seems to work properly near the cat box or in India where it goes into overdrive. The answer is no not this blank but it was cut 15 yrs ago. This timber is getting rarer all the time 60% of it is locked up in forests and the locals sift very quickly what does come on the market.

I have heaps of blanks I felt deserved an airing many of them from Tasmania.

Whilst in Tasmania so long ago I visited a Cheese Factory all the boards on the shelves were made from a cousin of this timber, plain as in appearance but one of the most innocuous timbers perfect for the purpose. I ordered a ton of the Black Hearted Sassafras from a Mill in the Nth but it never came. Since then it has priced itself quite high and out of my reach.

Around 2000 I used a board I had as a base for a pen rest using piano keys for a gift to a mate in America. I have seen timber with Ebony black and almost white,these days the darker colours with browns seem to be more common.
