Has anyone tried bamboo from the bamboo cane? I had a go yesterday but have only completed the nib half at the moment. I split the can and glued the bits to the tube. I then covered it in ca and the more ca and then more ca. Finally I finished it off with ca. I might get the other half finished tonight.

Thanks Woody. I don't like the look of it at the moment but if I finish it off then it might look better (he says hopefully).

Do you (or anyone else) need any Ash, Oak, Hazel? I don't have much that is more than 6-7" diameter but can brink a fair amount of that. The Hazel is fairly small 2-3".

Paul,

Watch out with that bamboo, if its from raw sticks it could be quite dangerous if it splinters. Laminated bamboo is dried and compressed after being dunked in phenol resin. I fear the stuff in the raw state could shatter and bamboo splinters are bloody sharp.

I had thought of doing a pen in bamboo, but then decided against it
When I saw your photo I thought ouch that is a bad split, then read the post and realised it was deliberate :rolling:
I'm going to withhold judgement till I see the finished project :thinks:

Paul what depth are the pieces of Ash and Oak? I can always use bowl blanks that are that diameter and 4 - 5" in depth
