Has anyone found a problem with T/B mark two Baron kits. I am having problems fitting the buhes into the tubes. I have a set of bushes that I have used with T/R kits and the bushes fit fine, however with the Timberbit chrome kits the bushes fit the cap tube but not the nib (lower) tube. I did manage to get the bushes in with a pair of pliers but I think this is distorting the tubes for when the pen is assembled. I checked with a local (expensive) kit supplier to see if there was a different set of bushes for the mark 2 and he said no and if he has a problem he used emery paper on the bush. Any ideas?

Yep, we've seen this before last year. Some small variations in tube it seems.

If you do a search on here you'll find various suggestions of overcoming it, or as Alex says, email TB and they will sort it out no problem.

Go back to using calipers first if the bushes dont fit use plain under size spacers. I only turn to measured sizes with my pens because of variations saves a mass of bushes on the way. Otherwise its like painting by numbers. No need to wait for bushes buy with so many kits with the same name its a pain.

Peter.

I have ordered some Baron 2's as well will check when they get delivered. If I have a problem I will turn them the same a Peter does... Between-centres and use calipers to get the size right....

Idea 1. Dont use emery paper! If the tubes at fault why wreck the bushes? Couple of things worth doing, check the OD of the tubes at the ends and in the middle, are they the same? (As you measure the tubes revolve them within the calipers checking for round)I had an issue recently with the bottom tube of some cigar pens. After I took the measurements in the middle and at the ends (both) I found that some of the tubes were the correct dim in the middle but slightly smaller at one or both ends. Traspired that the clamping machine that holds the tube whilst they are revolved and cut was clamping the tube too tightly. Closer inspection showed a slight ridge about 8mm from the end, and the tube was ever so slightly triangular where what was something like a three jaw chuck had been used to grasp the tube. The set up tension on this machine was obviously wrong and it was just on a few of the tubes, the kits were obviously assembled from a variety of batches of tube.

I am not familiar with brass tube manufacture, aluminium is the metal I used to design extrusions for so dont know if the methods are the same, but it would be unusual to get a dimensionally defective batch.

If you are still having problems pm me your address Maurice and I'll put a set in the post that you can compare.
