Another enjoyable project. Had a small chip out, so this one will stay in the workshop.

One of our massive trees here in Australia is the Yellow Box Tree ,in the burl form it is identical to your pen timber Paul,is a Eucalypt meliodora . Highly regarded for its gnarled twisted tough timber,a favoured burning wood as long as I can remember.

Thanks for the picture Peter. What a beautiful lump of wood. What do you mean "favoured Burning"? For heat or something artistic?
What a shame to see this stuff go up in flames.

I too have made a couple of these and was pleased with the results. I spent a fair amount of time making a grommet to fit about the the click button which I now know I didn't need to do. I have a compression mandrel and it never crossed my mind to use it. Well done and good thinking. The push click button does unscrew and can be replaced after the mechanism has been pressed home, but can be a little fiddly.

I like the video too. Well done all round.

Burning as in firewood mate.The piece I photographed was one of hundreds I scavenged after the burls were cut up for pen blanks.

I used it in this one piece mate to fit a burnt image of a Wombat with writing as a momento for a Vietnam Vets group outing to his farm a couple of hours away from here,he was right chuffed I can tell you. He hosted 35 of us husbands and wives for a memorable day. Both Wilma and I look forward to these outings.Rare occasions where I can relax and enjoy scenery and good company. In reflection Vietnam Vets remain the not so heralded heroes in this country,brought into an unholy conflict at that time so long ago.

I would prefer to turn between centres but I need to get myself a short in width tool rest.
