Still new to all of this but had some success with the Omega and the PSI Executive with both turning out great for finish and fit which is thanks to you all on here:thumbs:

Problem I have is that I have come by some Rinehart Ball Points and found the fit to be interference at best and fall out if turned upside down at worst. I know I can glue them but that seems a real badge. The worst problem is that they use an extension tube which fits into the cap to activate the twist and that on the two I have is at least 20 thou larger than where it is supposed to go so that ain't going anywhere !

I was an aircraft fitter in a previous life so I can make it work but it's not the point

So is it just me.......?

Before you glue tubes in try the fittings on the tubes, you don't have to push them all the way home, but at least you will see if anything is to lose.

So, where are the photos of the omega and executive pens?

If you read Woody's thread you will see there was a clip missing on a clip, it's worth checking things like that as well. Also don't rely on the instruction choice of drill bits, always measure the tubes and pick the best drill bit. Same goes for the bushes, don't assume they are correct measure the pen parts so that you can turn the blanks to the exact size rather than assume the bushes are correct.

I look forward to seeing the photos of the executive:thumbs:

That was another point one of the packs was missing a part. Appreciate the reference to drill and bush sizes but it was the fit inside the tubes that was disappointing plus the top tube being way too large

Cheers

I understand where you are coming from with tubes not being interference fit and the risk of gluing and you feeling it would be a bodge.

I think a few on here have had that same problem over the years, now you either glue them or check them prior to even glueing the tube in to the blank.

If you find the tube to have a loose fit then you can put a centre punch on to the tube nearest the end where the fittings go.

That should improve the interference fit when building it up but can still result in needing a small dab of glue to rectify the problem.

The thing that worries me, your an ex aircraft engineer.. so how many plane bits and bobs have you had to make do and mend (bodge) and how many are still flying that we should be worried about:devil:

As a techo I share your displeasure as stated in part already I tend to lessen the surprises with go no go methods I also find fixes for most things. Early days I was frustrated spare brasses were as expensive as a whole kit its hard to find balance with pen kit prices and expectations. When I worked in Civil Aviation when we fixed something we had to give paperwork that insisted on showing cause blown fuse was like rag to a bull. Statistics on failures create great feedback all the way along the line/ To build a motor car from spare parts would be prohibitive.
