I have am probably going to be using P6 resin for my opaque blanks and have seen a sample pack of powders from MrMica would these be suitable to colour my blanks or would I be better using liquid dyes?

Will also be using Aluminite amazing clear can I also colour these for different effects?

Any advice greatly received!!

The mica powders will work best in clear resin.
Most resin suppliers will have liquid dyes on their web site suitable for the resin types. These liquid paint like dyes are ideal for opaque resins.

Well hopefully I'm about to order my pressure pot and some P6 resin, unfortunately Easy Composites only stock 500g tins of colour powder.

Can anyone advise me on any suitable dyes or powders that I can use with P6 which is an opaque resin.

Graham you can use Mica Powders perfectly fine in the P6 resin (in fact the blanks you bought from me & loved so much was Mica in P6 resin) also as far as I’m aware you can also use Alumilite dyes in all resin types so it might be worth trying them.

Yes mica works but you lose the depth of shimmer. Does resin retains that depth of shine in the powders where as the opaque will dull it somewhat.
Alumilite dyes work well but for solid colours I would go for pigment paste still. East coast do smaller quantities I think.

Yeh you get a greater depth of shimmer with the clear resins, but with the opaque resins such as the P6 you can still get some gorgeous pens, and on the plus side the P6 is a lot cheaper than the clear resins for someone just starting out & finding there feet with casting.

Oh without a doubt and I still use p6 myself. Not sure on the pot life for starting out as it still catches me out from time to time. I have noticed certain colours seem to cause a faster cure and have a few bottle stopper blanks with the stirrer still in them :D

Me to lol, I’ve had that happen twice but only when mixing larger quantities.

Edit: I started out as a novice using the P6 & it worked fine, it was only when I started getting adventurous & mixing larger number of colours in larger quantities that I got caught out.
