Hi, Guys,

Not a good day...I've been looking forward to turning a stick of that golden-looking hawthorn Woody was good enough to give us, so, after super-glueing all the roof tiles in place prior to the expected hurricane, I retreated to the workshop for an hour and made a Euro. As I was turning the wood all that interesting gold hue disappeared, leaving me with a featureless blank, rather like white holly. Oh dear, methinks, reaching for the white spirit. A wipe of that stuff normally pops any grain there is to pop. Nothing. Still a plain blank. So out came my stains. I tried applying various oak stains and still nothing. Finally gave up trying to breathe life into this ungrateful bugger (the Gobi Desert is more interesting!) sanded back to a beigy-white, and assembled   it. Somebody might buy it, or I'll give it away as a consolation prize, LOL!

Sorry about the poor piccies - I think even the camera was disgusted with this sad-looking piece!

Bob.
