First time turning Blackwood, and I really do like it. This is from the log that Woody sent me.
Another box with an inset lid, with a Blackwood finial.
Big thanks to Woody for this, it's a very inspiring timber to work with:thumbs:

PS. sorry for the aerial Brian, I can't help it:wink:

That's superb and you must be well pleased with it. Is the finial segmented? It looks like it is.:thumbs:

Strewth !

That's about the only word I can think of that won't get me banned for obscenity.

That is absolutely f******g fantastic.

I've seen some lovely pieces of work on here and that is up there with them.

Gorgeous.

Thanks Peter. It is segmented yes. I've used some sapwood to have a celtic band just to break up the length. Took me ages to decide weather to do it or not :funny:

Brody first blush your combination stopped me in my tracks without any prompting all I could see was a pen set into the top leaking ink figuratively and precisely down into the bowl below then the second picture took my breath away showing the delicate thickness of the turning the dabbling around the lid giving unexpexted strength to the whole pen like top piece almost IMHO simulating a pen in a pen rest.

Sometimes I deplore the unsympathetic attempt using tall unstructured pinnacles on top of otherwise exciting objects superfluous to design becoming repetitious and demeaning to the object perhaps living and seeing more of these tall skinnies than most any of the members being in close proximity to the forerunning master of them with his world famous Skittles etc. Undoubtedly impressive technically but eventually like winged 1950,s motor cars a passing trend.

I am moved beyond all I can say with the natural object created by nature and fashioned to this extreme beauty as a huge fan of opportune vision and excitement.

This most wonderful object is a classic setting a standard for all of us to emulate, be different, challenge the oft seen, it belongs behind glass in display for us to contemplate how a really unassuming man can totally utilise natures bounty.

Brody my mate totally impressed by your creation.

Kind regards Peter.:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:
