Since the start of last year I've been inundated with a mixture of schoolwork and knife making so turning has taken the backseat,although I do still make the odd pen and bowl here and there for myself,friends or family.

I made this set out of london plane ,a JR Gent,3'' blade and a bottle opener.

Another set,although this was high end stuff,the wood is desert iron wood and the customer paid £60 for a block and asked me to utilise the offcuts so I made the bottle opener from spares.

After the few sets,I decided to do a variety of my 3'' blades

Left to right,there's standard walnut,oak,wenge,yew,burr elm,striped walnut and london plane. The block of pearlwood that they sit on is about 3'' deep and I got given over 3 of those blocks.

They all sold fairly quick so I made another set,from the left,there's oak,london plane,something I can't remember the name of,spalted beech,yew,zebrano,2 x burr elm,walnut and oak.

Then back to the one off commissions,a Damascus burr elm knife with mosaic pins.

And another Damascus,in spalted beech.

Hope you all like them,sorry for the lack of turned items :goesred:

Matt running out of time but can I say I am completely wrapped in all of your work you so kindly posted mate it is a treasure trove of excellence the incredible selection of timbers might I remark also the London Plane is the finest I have ever seen and that bottle opener more than a toy showpiece but a regular tough useable piece of work the after thought of using the timber this way superb. Captivated by the Damascus blade exceptional figuring indeed could spend a page admiring your work over and over again. Thankyou glad I popped back in rfor a short time this morning.

Kind regards Peter.:claps::claps::claps:

These are brilliant Matty. I was given a piece of Desert Ironwood to make a pen, it's on the stocks now. Looks a beautiful timber.:thumbs:

Do you sharpen them also Matty? :thinks:

The short ones,I give the once over on a piece of leather to refine the edge.

For the full size,dearer ones,the wet stones come out, from 400 to 8,000 grit and then polishing paste until the edge is a mirror,usually holding them next to a book gives a good indicator of how polished the edge is although I reserve this finish for the best steels :wink:
