Blank Preparation

How far ahead do you prepare and tube up your blanks?

Do you do them as you are going along or have you prepared all of your blanks days or weeks before you turn them?

When segmenting I am probably working on 2 or 3 at a time, but seeing as I am not making that many to sell then I just drill and tube them as needed.

i just work with whichever blank speaks to me at the time, perhaps i should get out more

I usually have about 30 pen blanks drilled and glued at any one time.

Get batches together so when turning I tend to do one type of pens on the same day, that way it simplifies the turning process.

I have to admit I was not expecting that result.
I was half expecting that most of you prepare a quantity of blanks as per [MENTION=165]silver[/MENTION]s reply.
I find things are so much easier if I have pre-prepared the blanks.
(I am basing my answer on the one time I prepared 14 slimline blanks, will no doubt do it with other kits now. I may even do a mixture of kits)

I find as I’m sticking up I do a batch of the same kit so all I need to do is turn sort one set of bushes out then

One problem can bite you when preparing wood is movement many. Have. Ask why wont my tubes got drilled one day tried to tube up the next personally I tube a wood blank as soon as I drill it especially on expensive woods acrylic and corian blanks you can tube up a week or so after drilling no problem

As a fairly new pen turner, I just work on one at a time. Maybe some day I'll start to work in batches

If I do a batch, something happens and then 6-12 months later they disappear underneath other things.

Seriously I do the odd pen now and again but tend to drill and glue one day and turn them the next. This gives the glue time to set properly even if it says it can be cured well before that
