Nice pen Keith, as you say the camera doesn't help show off its quality .. :bwink:

Lovely Pen, I was tempted by some Bog Oak today, but it was a little too expensive

Doug, if you want I cam send you a couple of blanks. My experience of bog oak was not good (probably me being a plonker rather than the wood being an issue) so I have some blanks I'll never use. PM me your address.

Found It - Pete B posted it to me. Here is the contents...

Rowdy.
I am really no expert. I have picked it up along the way from various forums.
What i do.
Light tent, and lights, you can make your own even with just white card, but they are cheap on flea bay.
If your using flash hold a business card loosely over the flash to eliminate glare.
ISO 100.
F 22 this is i think depth of field and i still haven't got it right as the ends of these pens are out of focus. I have tried focussing on the ends, the centre band and then moving shot and taking picture, but this is still wip.
Use the timer as you get a longer exposure.
set the custom white balance by taking a shot of either a white background, i use the light tent with nothing in it. Or you can get a special grey card from photo shops, i don't have one.
Use photoshop or similar to crop, adjust light, i always seem to have to make them brighter.
For a website a put a text box on the picture for webpages.

I was using photo matrix software that enhances the photos. It uses the bracketing feature found on a lot of cameras to take 3 pictures, one under one normal and one overexposed.
The software then enhances the picture but i think they look a bit false sometimes plus its a stack of work per pen.

Have a look on the IAP forum as there are some very good tutorials on their.

I am still learning but thats what i now do, hope it helps.

Regards

Pete

Hope this helps Buddy....

Thanks Rowdy mate. Just had a quick look on ebay and light box kit including lights are around the £40 mark. May have to invest in one.
