The photo just doesn't do this justice :rant:

This is a piece of Bog Oak David (Jimjam) kindly sent me & it`s lovely, the colours go from grey to black with some smashing grain pattern.
On a gun metal slimline from TB & finished with carnauba wax.

I really like it Doug, and I can share your thoughts on taking pictures of dark woods.:camera:

Well turned and I like the finish, the gun metal really matches it well..

Very nicely done Doug, nice pen and not a bad pic considering how hard it is to get that right.

That's lovely wood and a lovely pen, I had to tilt the screen to be able to see the grain. How did you find the bog oak to turn and finish?

Thanks for the comments

It is very much like ordinary Oak Peter only a little softer, or so it seemed to me. I did try a CA finish on it at first but thought it was too glossy so knocked it back & went with the wax.

Nice pen, Doug!

Re the bog oak - yes, it is softer than oak so a sharp chisel is good. Also be sure to eradicate any tool or sanding lines - the wood takes a high gloss and it's surprising just how much any radial lines will show up! Erk!
Bob.
