I don't have any fixed number of CA coats that I put on. In order to have a better size match of the blank to the kit, I usually turn timber just under the size of the kit, then make enough coats of CA to have the diameter larger than the kit by about 0.1mm. Then I lightly sand and polish CA trying to make the finished pen within 0.02mm of specs. This doesn't work every time, but I am getting better with this. Usually I end up with 10 to 15 layers of CA.
