I have been asked by my dear mum for a bowl she can give to a dear friend as a Christmas present. The friend is quite religious so I cleaned the inside so the finish did not give any problems when using the Pyrography machine. I am happy with the outcome just hope it is what is needed.
I have not decorated more than half a dozen pieces with the machine. I even put a name and wood type on the bottom does this look OK and should I continue to burn this on the bottom of my pieces in other words does it look tidy enough

Hi Derek. That looks a really special bowl. Great idea for the pyrogaphy, wish I even had half an eye for design. Personally I can't see anything wrong with the base of the bowel.

That's a nice bowl Derek, the pyrography is spot on.:thumbs:
For the bottom I like to use the point of the skew to lightly mark the centre in it has to be remounted & I can pick up the centre.
I also put 2 or 3 concentric rings with the skew to decorate the bottom & take the eye away from the centre dot. You can then pyro your info between the rings which act as a Fran to your info.

Thank you Bill some one else also recommended putting lines in the bottom to aid pyro'ing the names

Having had recent experiences and ongoing Bowel work I had a chuckle, my keyboard can never spell correctly either mate.

Derek fine lining and expressive hands epitomise for me the work of a craftsman that you show in all your projects. When needs must to make something you have risen to solve the materials and techniques so well. Love it mate.

Thank you Peter. Whenever I do something I first study by reading or watching how to use a machine/tool depending on what I want to use it for as well as technique in use. Then it is a case of trying my best to get the final results, it can either end in the bin if I am not happy or goes on display at a craft fair, luckily I have many more successes than failures. At the end of the day I enjoy experimenting or trying new technique which is what this hobby is all about for me.

I think that is a very beautiful piece of pyrography Derek. Agree with the others about small rings on the foot and the witness mark.

My dear old mum (94) has seen a photo today via my sister and she loves it and she is sure her friend will be over the moon. So I got that one right

Thank you George. The foot on this is 3 3/4" diameter so the writing is not as small as it appears.
