hi guys
I am making another acrylic pen and the blank is quite transparent, I am worried that the brass will show through -
would it be enough to use nail varnish in the required colour on the tube and then use super glue ?
is it better to paint the inside of the blank ? any tips on what pain to use and where to buy in the UK ?
someone mentioned colouring epoxy ? any tips on how to do this and where to get the required in the uk ?

Many thanks (as ever !)

Simon

I tend to use airbrush paint, I have vallejo black and its seems to grip the tube. you can get it in all sorts of colours. you can get it from
hobbyking uk. I find their prices really reasonable. if you can wait their China based warehouse has daft prices.

I had some problems with one of my latest. I had used acrylic paint and a cotton swab to paint the inside of the blanks. I determined that the paint wasn't dry when I inserted the tubes, and some of the paint got scraped off the inside. I colored the epoxy, but hadn't painted the tubes. So on my next, I painted both the tubes and inside of the blanks with spray paint, and colored the epoxy with acrylic paint.

I've never found the need to pre-paint the tubes or the inside of the hole. I mix some Humbrol enamel paint in with the two-part epoxy resin, use a sponge make-up brush to coat the inside of the holes, roll the tubes in the coloured epoxy making sure that there is a good coating everywhere and then insert the tubes with a twisting motion. Touch wood, I have never had a problem with this method.

I put a single drop of paint in the epoxy before I mix it. I've never had a problem with it not setting.
