Having looked at George's Post in relation to Resin Saver Moulds and the fact that I have never brought from America. What are the problems if any regarding import/tax etc.

Hi Vic. One thing to think about is the UK customs love the Americans and therefore it is very rare that things slip through without tax. Also try and find out who they are shipping with and the royal mail and tnt have excessive admin charges

the admin charge is less with royal mail than the couriers, so in my experience you are better off getting the supplier to ship using USPS if possible. That way, it is delivered by Royal Mail this end.

Anything over about $15 gets caught- I cant remember the last time anything slipped through from the USA. There are some funny rules if the import tax due is low, it is waived, but you will still have to pay VAT. Or visa versa.

On some items, it is still worth it- even if you get stung for shipping and import taxes. Normally, I try to find it in Europe first, but it isnt always possible.

I've so far only ordered stuff from the States twice. The first time I bought a pin chuck for $7 and the customs and Royal Mail charges for handling the customs was £14. The second one I'm waiting for so have already asked for a mortgage.

The index plate I ordered on the 3rd. March came on the 31st. March the cost was $24.99 + $27 postage total $51.99 It was sent by USPS and delivered by RM. No charges, unless my neighbour paid them and hasn't told me.

Having brought from the USA quite often ( running several American cars and my Brother in Law living in Oregon ) the problem is not the courier but custom and excise. Car parts are even worse as a strange 12% is charge and no one has yet to explain fully to me why this is charged. Importing from China is the same where the courier deals with the import duties. Obviously each courier has their transport charges for which you need to shop around but custom and excise is beyond their control.
Don't forget when you buy from the USA you have the price + sales tax then delivery, import duty, tax in our country and then VAT. Fortunately there is no sale tax from China ( I have never been charged ). Nor Italy or Germany come to that

I don't buy direct from USA anymore, other than the initial cost it's just to expensive the postage, customs, vat etc.

So it's generally go without or find another local supplier that as already imported the item
