Does any of the UK members have a preference of make of CA Glue and how much does the cost factor in your decision.

Do you go for the cheapest you can find or do you pay the extra for one of the more established makes?

As a newbie I'd be interested on what brands you go for.

Hi Dave I tend to go for Chestnuts brand of thick and thin glues.
However, I prefer Starbond for superfine jobs where application is really important.

But for pen finishing and tube gluing and regular stuff then the Chestnuts product is my go to.
I do not use yer bog-standard medium glues or big box shop as I find it goes everywhere, is not fit for my purposes and usually ruins my work 🥴
Hope this helps
Al

The most recent kid on the block is 'Gluboost' which has been made for high end musical instrument repair and finish and for pen finishing.
It is very expensive. I got some from a luthier friend, and found that it gives a very good finish ( not that i normally use CA as a finish)
The main difference is its flexibility.
My luthier friend had to import his from USA a couple of years ago, but now I see that it is available in UK ( still expensive )
The company will not post the accelerator, and I read somewhere that 'normal' accelerator is not compatable. ( maybe a bit of sales flannel)

Other than that I use Starbond.

Thanks for all your replies I've been using bog standard up till now and I think I'm going to go with StarBond it's only ÂŁ4 dearer than Chestnut and it's a slightly bigger bottle
If you are using it for glueing tubes into blanks, I would recommend using 2 part epoxy instead. Some folk use CA as a pen finish hence my answer above.

I would heartily recommend switching to epoxy for tube gluing as you get a decent open time to adjust things .I struggle with it as a finish to be honest but it (ca) can gap fill reasonably in laminated blanks.

Like Alan I’m in the star bond camp although loctite is excellent as their bottle comes with a great sealing lid ( integral pin ) so provided you wipe the nozzle it keeps the ca far better,
