I,m thinking of updating my dust collection later in the year to a wall mounted camvac probably the twin motor version
I was hoping for some reviews of you guys that have 1 its only got to service lathe and bandsaw and possibly a disc sander
when i get one. The main question I have is there much difference in performance between the 4" and the 2.5"

I only have the 63mm Camvac so cannot comment on the 100mm system. I am quite happy with mine which I've been using for a couple of years. I use mine on a piped system with 5 gated outlets & it works fine.

I had the 63mm one Geordie, it was very powerful and did the business, but i sold it after a few months because of the noise it generated .. I don't know if they have improved on them since .. I am going back 6/7 years now ..

I wear ear muffs recently bought a famous brand top dollar house fan with a large loop opening and it was advertised as whisper quiet tis not so shifting air makes noise.

I have a twin motor 63mm. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat, on the basis that it does the job well and I have every confidence in its quality and reliability. The point of a 100mm system is to avoid clogging in the pipes, which is sensible of you're extracting from a planer for instance, but pointless if you're just dealing with dust. If you're extracting lathe shavings, not just dust, you'll want the 100mm, but I would suggest you don't need to - you'll be emptying it every 5 minutes for a start. At my lathe, I only switch on my camvac for sanding. Bear in mind that for the same motor. the wider the pipe, the less suction you'll get. Having said that, I do extract from a planer and I've never had a problem with clogged pipes.

Yes, duct the exhaust vents, if possible to somewhere far away or better still to a different room. That's where the noise (and the heat) comes from, the motor noise is tolerable.

The other thing to watch out for is make sure you change the filters regularly. If you allow them to get too clogged up, obviously it has an impact on efficiency but it also causes a pressure buildup on the filter cages, which are only plastic, and they will break. (Do not ask me how I know this!!) It's a three part filter system - paper bag (the Record bags fit it too) inner fabric bag, and outer fabric bag. I have two sets of fabric bags, so I can change them and be back in action straight away, then I can wash the dirty ones at my leisure.

I hope that helps.

I started with the single motor which was in the room with me, they are very loud! so I upgraded to the twin motor and put it outside of my workshop and piped it in. I still found the noise an issue and so I ran pipes from the outlets into a homemade baffle box, this helped but it was still noisy. I found the suction on clean filters great but they clogged quickly and the suction soon was very poor. Allot of owners now fit cyclone separators to prevent clogging, like the dust deputy or home made models.
I had all 63mm so cant comment on the 100mm.

I agree with George re the filters, I made a Thien separator for my Camvac wrote it up here http://www.penturners.co.uk/your-tips-jigs/2939-thien-separator-build.html
I've found all extractors to be noisy, as Peter suggests ear defenders are well worth having I put my iPod ear phones in first then put my defenders on, can't beat a bit of thrash metal while turning.:whistling:
