Captive rings always fascinate but I don't think they work on pens but good for a challenge.Clever!
Made this one a while ago too. I kept the ring captive so it only spins but it was just a test of weather I could do It or not.. Still got it... I'm liking yours though mike

Thank you for your commentsThe smallest I have seen was on a goblet 10mm high he did it with dental picks...i have always liked them but not seen many on a pen and yours is the first I actually do like, yes a little more sanding would improve it, but 10 out of 10 for trying
Yes the arrow is in one piece. It's a very old idea you drill the goblet then make the arrow shape the flight end but the point leave as a block. Put this end in boiling water compress in a vice, place on the rings and thread through the holes then shape the arrow head. Easier to do than explain.bet you had fun sanding that ..one is intrigued as to how you made it..is the arrow one piece?
Like it a lot and very well done.Did one of them too

Hope this helps.
Have a look on Youtube. Not really but thanks for trying
Nice pen. the next one is alwAYS better! This is a Pen I made sometime ago and not surprising it never sold but it was a good test.
I should have spent more time sanding inside the ring.
Hope you like please comment.
It's really a matter of what you like. I only sell Pens to raise money for a Childrens Cancer Charity a lot are given to friends and family. Therefore I do my own thing and some I make for a technical challenge. I would very much advise not to put Captive rings on children rattles. There are places where captive rings make sense - goblets, and possibly baby rattles (although there are safety issues in that situation - - -). I've also used them on wine stoppers. But in other cases, captive rings fall into the category of technical challenges. In my opinion, there is no reason to put a captive ring on a pen.
I did some pretty ornate profiles when I first got into turning, but later found that I prefer a much simpler design. Its a matter of choice - - -
