I posted a little while ago, photos of my late pals damage carving where I had already replaced a finger on one hand. I've at last found time to replace the other missing finger but with this one it was more difficult to match the new carving to the old break so I had to fashion a ring from the collar of an aloy pop rivet to disguise the join. Result isn't perfect but not too bad and I know his widow will be delighted.

The marble base was there but not fitted and it needed something else hence the rather spendid bit of burr (don't know what the wood is). It was a hell of a wrench to use that as it would have made a beautiful pen. - Hey ho:nooidea:

Glad it's done and maybe I can find some time to make pens again!

Fabulous repairs and enhancements to a truly stunning sculpture, you should be very proud of what you have done both to the piece of work and for the widow.

You've got some amazing skill Bob, just like your friend. I too would struggle to use the base for anything other than pens.

Thanks for the kind comments guys, much appreciated.

Repairs weren't too difficult tbh but I was choked up a bit (I'm a big softie I suppose:whistling:), cos he was a good friend and it felt strange working on his carving. I bought his favourite set of palm chisels which I used and that added to the weird feeling. I know he would have appreciated that and his wife will shed a few tears when she gets it back.

Looked at the burr again and I must have had a rash moment when I used it. If it wasn't epoxied on I'd have it off again and substitute some plain wood:sob: I can just see it on a couple of nice kits.

I think you should be very proud at what you have achieved and I am sure his widow will be delighted and the emotion shows how much you care, we like to appear hard on the outside but most of us have soft centres.
