Fancied doing one of these for ages, but didn't have the tooling eg Bandsaw so asked Alex to make some blanks for me. Very happy I am too with the result.

They arrived on Monday and so I couldn't wait so got stuck in on Monday evening, since which Alex has been bugging me for pics.

So here ya go, i-phone pics so not the best, sorry :face:

Walnut with Maple cross finished in friction polish.

Very nice Phil and Alex well made, turned and finished, Phil you don't need a band saw to make these blanks I use a miter saw when I make them which I haven't done for a few years now

I was wondering about that to be honest, is a basic mitre guide enough ? Or does it need to be super accurate ?

Alex, I'm waiting for some Gold Sierra kits for the others, I think that would suit the wood better, you agree ?

Loved doing them, the way it appears as if by magic is great.

I use an old standard metal miter saw and block and it works fine for me with perfect results every time just takes a little longer

Iuse one of these but I never paid that stupid price for it, in fact I had 3 of em just gave one each to my boys.
A good feel to it and takes no longer than pluging in and setting the bandsaw.
Nobex Champion Compound Mitre Saw: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

Sad thing is I have one of those that I brought back from Dad's, but the saw isn't there :sob:

They have similar at B&Q for about 20 quid, might be worth a try unless someone knows different ? Or could you use the simple blocks and a decent tenon saw ? If so about 6 quid will do it. (I have a decent saw)

Yep I agree with the others lovely knot & pen :claps:

I will have to give the wider knot a try, I like the look of it.

Yeah, I think that 60 deg knot looks really well on a Sierra, seems to be in nice proportion.

It also helps when your supplier does such a bang on job as well
