So the big day will soon be with us.

Fortunately I have made all the pens I needed to dish out as prezzies, 12 pens for 9 different people and that got me thinking,
No doubt you have all made pens for all of your family and friends at Christmases gone by, and am curios to know do you give them a new pen every year? if not do you still give them something you have turned yourself?

I make the girls (my wife & daughter) pressies. For the last couple of years now, they have chosen the wood they like when I go to Yandles on our way back from Devon or Cornwall it’s then my job to create something out of it this years is underway, and I’ll post when they are finished, but it’s one of the reasons you’ve seen no pens from me recently!

Last year my daughter had a teak solitaire board that was engraved around the edges, with a saying. For my wife it was a rosewood and walnut box, lined with pig suede, to house her hair dryer and straightening tongues.

Oh and I made a rod for my own back because this is now classed as ‘tradition’

My Son and his partner get a new pen every year. They are both accountants so pens all ways come in handy.

I do not give the wife/kids/grandkids pens every year. The grandkids get a slimline when they start high school.I am making a couple of special pens for wifey and have turned some bowls as prezzies and will be turning some spinning tops as toys/tree decs.It seems the more you make as gifts the more you end up being asked.Still, nice to be appreciated.

Oh well looks like my friends and family will be getting pens every Christmas for the next 100 years :sob:

I suppose next November I will have to visit them all and have a look at what I made them this year so as not to give them the same pen year in year out :goesred:

I have in the past made presents for the great grand children it was easy as toys all the way. Grown ups depending on who it is for I make gifts of things I think they will use or like. The teenager age just get some money as I can't keep up with their wants or pay the price for example trainers at well over £100 which they only wear until the next ones that come into fashion.
I think they all have enough pens for now unless they ask for one

I think it is nice that, even in this technological age, that we can still manufacture nice gifts to dole out to loved ones.

Shows that handcrafted items still rule the roost on special occasions
