A Chrome SN Gentleman's Rollerball Pen carrying a Burr Elm blank finished with a few coats of friction polish and shined up using Renaissance wax... This is a very large pen indeed, with the top barrel needing a 14.5mm drill for the tube. I have added a picture with this pen and a Slimline to give an idea just how big this pen is ..

Take a guess
That certainly is one chunky monkey Jim, but all the better for showing off that lovely Elm burr, an absolute smasher mate :up:

Just about my all time favourite wood Jim very nicely done mate a smashing effort.
I take it it's your first full sized pen from the way you extol the size of it.
They are more of a desk pen than one for the pocket ain't they.

Other than making one Roman Harvest Pen, you are correct Brian, the size did surprise me to be honest ... :bwink:

Hi, Jim,
Every time I see a pen in burr elm it reinforces my belief that there is no finer wood than this, and your pen has proved it again! The pen looks brilliant, so well done, matey!

I agree that the pen is huge - I've only made two of these, and virtually had to give 'em away because of their size. (The other minus is that they are not cap-able.)

Bob.

Absolutely super looking pen Jim and as Doug says the bigger pen shows the wood better too. Nicely presented too.

Jim, I never had success with a 14.5 drill on these kits - ended up using a 15mm! They are fantastically comfortable to write with for those (like me) with big mitts. A Baron feels like a toy after you've used one of them. A good blokes pen!

Dyuno when I read Jim's text earlier I kept thinking I am sure I used 15mm on the cap
To the point I was ganna say you did well to do it in 14.5mm.
Thanks for reaffirming that one David I thought it was me going mad.
So here we have yet another inconsistent kit???

Jim, ripper of a pen I like the wedge shaping from the top you must have had fun with the knot and had you made it slimmer more so it is indeed among the best of your pens I salute you.

Kind regards Peter.:claps:

David, Brian, I tested the tubes in the drilled blanks as i do with all new kits, this was tight as you mention, i have a small half moon file that i used to rub inside the blank to ease it off a tad. When i came to place the tube into the blank i did feel that had i taken a few seconds more it would have been curtains ... :thinks:

Lovely Jim. I've only made one of this kit and it took ages to get someone with big enough hands to buy it.

Power to your elbow Jim cos there ain't a grand amount of meat on the lid end at best so that extra 0.5mm might just make a difference some time.
I cant remember what the imperial size is but I loaned it out and have not got it back yet so It would still have to be 15mm as he also has all my other bits around that size.
I have 15mm forstner which I am now sure is what I used on my last one.
