A fountain pen turned to experiment with the Renaissance wax finish...haven't perfected it yet, wood is walnut,an offcut from a gun stock.

Pictures look a little grainy/blurred because the light is dropping pretty quickly here

Very nice Matty. I emailed Holland and Holland and Purdy about getting stuff from their offcuts. They emailed back very interested and asked me what and how etc. Now they make pens themselves.... Duh!

Thanks,I get these bits of walnut from a few small custom stock makers,it's funny to see what they consider an offcut, some of them are up to 2 inch square, plenty of pen blanks

4 out of 9 of my rifle stocks are walnut,1 is lacquered, have a couple of beech ones too but they are very bland.

I used one bit of the off cut to make some scales for a replica 1911.

Thanks Jim,I think I was applying it too lightly, not wanting to generate heat or have the cloth snag, have just turned another pen in Burr Elm but applied a bit more pressure and it seems to have worked a lot better, thanks for the tips too!
