This kit used to be of dubious quality but have made 50 of them in the last week and everyone is mechanically perfect.

From left Andaman Island Padauk, aka Andaman Redwood, Zebrano, Kingwood, Laburnum, Green Plastic, Blue Plastic, Still Blue Plastic.
Sanded to 400, 2 coats of CA micromeshed and Chestnut Burnishing cream.

spot the fingerprint on the Andaman island Padauk. This wood is a lot softer than normal Padauk but its main benefit is that it doesnt darken with age.

Nice, now where do you get your wood from ?

The range you carry must be impressive !

Phil,

I think that I have in excess of of 200 species. I have been meaning to list them but on every occasion something more interesting rears its ugly head. Where do I get my woods? - Local council tree officer, i have some notable large hauls from him. An acoustic instrument wood supplier, I got all his offcuts that were destined for the woodburner, he often had odd stuff such as the Andaman Island Padauk. I have made it my business to stop every time I pass the major importers so that they now know me and if they get a weird piece, they put it to one side for me. Tree surgeons, a great source of odd bits that dont make it to market such as judas wood, juniper, mulberry. Found two tions of ash by the road that the Golf club had cut down, they were grateful that I removed it for them. And them there's the regular haunts of Lincolnshire woodcrafts, timberline, exotic hardwoods UK, and the best source that I have got is my local shop Bedford Saw and Tool Co, which has an Alladins cave of Rosewoods bought from Nagels in Germany before they went belly up. Got a mate who imports Olive wood from Southern Italy, a mate on the craft fair circuit who has the most fantastic burred Tunisian Olivewood cutting boards that end up as pen blanks. Couple of mates who make Mendlesham chairs and give me their off cuts, I currently have from them some beautiful purple spalted Holm Oak.

Forgot, if you live near Hull, then the best source there is a guy called Martin Pidgeon who carries an extensive and unusual range, hes on the RPT and you can find his details there.
