Closed end pens. Pin chucks etc

I have been looking for a source of pin chucks suitable for making closed end pens or alternatively an expanding mandrel. So far I have not found any UK based suppliers. Does anyone have any suggestions as to when I can find some. I do not have any metal working experience or tools so I do not think I can make my own pin chuck.

i saw somewhere that somebody had made one from having a transfer punch, and using a cut o-ring in place of a pin. the tube was kept in place by twisting it in the same way as with a traditional pin chuck. it wasn't this link, but that gives you the idea https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/v...uck-for-making-closed-ended-pens-skiprat-pens

make your own from a set of transfer punches, file a flat edge on them and then use a small piece of welding rod or 1.5mm brass round to lock the tube in place..

That had crossed my mind as well but I wondered about the strength of something only 7mm or so in diameter against the pressure of turning the blank on it.

I have made one from walnut before to make closed end caps. If it's a piece for a 7mm pen then the expanding mandrel from Turners Workshop will be stronger.

They are out of stock at the moment. I will have a go at making a larger one as I have a non pen project in mind.

Turn the mandrel down to size then soak it in CA.
