Hi, Guys,

Made up a pair of His 'n Hers pens earlier in beautiful cocobolo. A Euro and a Sierra. Shame this wood is so expensive as it has a really beautiful grain, which takes a nice finishCocobolo..jpg.
Yeah, usual crap scan...

Bob,

Nice wood, good kits, great workmanship, good finish, crap photography, go to specsavers!

You're right, cocobolo is expensive and it will get more expensive as it gets rarer. The Americans have managed to get it listed in CITES as a response to the Chinese demand for it and all South American woods, Goncalo Alves is almost impossible to get fresh stocks of. The Chinese are buying anything that illustrates their status, since they binned Mao's little red book that said thou shall not express or display materialistic wealth, they buy anything that anyone else in China doesnt have. The main timber merchants are quite despondent about the situation. If you can afford it stock pile it!

Many thanks for your kind comments, guys - much appreciated!

And sadly, Neil is right (as he usually is!) regarding the rarity of this wood. It's so costly that short of putting my wife on the streets to pay for it (which I'm considering...) I won't be making many cocobolo pens! It's become somewhat of a status symbol to possess anything made from it.

LOL, Woody, methinks a trip up to Wales might be worth your while!

Bob.

Great pens Bob pity about the scan (give the bloody thing another clean!). I think cocobolo is my favourite wood for pen turning. I remember reading somewhere that the timber from the average cocobolo tree is worth an incredible $2m dollars. I'm sure Neil will know if this is factual.

It is a pen turning forum not a photographic forum!!!!!!!!!!
The answer to that would definitely start an argument and ruin Bobs thread so I shall refrain on this occasion and get back to the point in qustion.
Tell me more about the string on the pen Bob, is it part of the art ?
