I had a go at segmenting a pen based on Woodies video,
using Iroko, pine and Aluminium, unfortunately when I sanded I got bad contamination from the Aluminium.
I did wash the blank first with spirit before I sanded but was unable to prevent the bleed.
Is there something else I should have done?
Apart from the colouring, I was pleased with the segmenting.pen 1.jpgpen 2.jpg

Before you sand put on some sanding sealer and as you sand it back put on some more and keep doing that until you have finished sanding that will seal the wood and stop contamination.

The contamination is from the aluminium you would have done better to have used something like Box wood a or tight grained dense wood instead of pine which is quite soft and has an open grain or as peter said S/S but in saying that it still looks good

I agree with others that the end effect looks rather nice. I appreciate the advice as to how best avoid contamination but just occasionally something not quite planned gives a rather surprising result.
