Hello pen people.

One of the first custom fountain pens I ever made was from this Conway Stewart Dartmoor material and this is the first re-visit since. It’s nice to see the improvements I’ve made along the way.
It has black finials and sterling silver rings. I also added a pair of centre bands to the cap on this one which I’ve started doing recently.

The pocket clip is chrome plated steel.
It is fitted with a Bock number 8 titanium semi flex nib.

I made a deal with myself that I would offer it for sale and if it didn’t go after 24 hours I would keep it. (Un)fortunatley it sold pretty fast. Ah well I can always make another.

Pen details: Cap threads are 14mm triple lead. Overall length when closed is 145mm and the tapered barrel is 16mm at its widest point.

Cheers
Ash

Not hard to see why your pens sell so quickly. That's really nice, classic lines and great detailing... Spot on Ash:drool::drool:

Ash, I admire every pen that you show, all classy.

Can you tell me what the resin finial and end cap is, please?
I have, on occasion, overcome my plastic phobia and used that material as end caps.
I never know what to order, but I like your ones.
What is the name please?

Yes with pleasure. You’ll be thrilled to know that it’s an opportunity to contribute to the PD pension fund, (of which I should be a shareholder by now), as the blanks for the finials are from Beaufort Ink - their Semplicita range. Fabulous material and I just took delivery of their new colours which are a lovely addition to the range.

You know what Ash, although I am more into Vintage pens than anything produced by the many pen companies today I would rather have one of your Dartmores than anything produced by the current Conway Stewart company.

Thanks for the side by side pictures. While I do like the original I prefer the bigger newbie more. It is in a class of its own, able to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best being made by other pen makers.

I hope my comments haven't made your head become so inflated that you are ballon bouncing across the ceiling. 🎈

I checked out Conway Stewart Dartmor blanks there are two versions of the blanks that I can see and they are both different prices. I bought the cheaper one hope when it turns up its the same blank you have used.

That's very kind of you to say Paul. Thank you!

Out of interest what sort of vintage pens do you tend to go for. Is there a particular make or model you favour? I am gradually trying to develop my knowledge of vintage pens and the various materials, nibs and filling mechanisms. I find it all so interesting.

Hi Dave
Yes there are a couple of sources I am aware of. Vince at the Turners Workshop bought up all the old Conway Stewart stock when they closed down, and thats where I got my blanks from. However I believe the company who made the blanks exclusively for CS carried on making them to the same recipe and I've seen them for sale under the name "Conway Colors".

Pleasure Pete and thanks for the very kind words. It always means more to get a nice comment from somebody who knows the subject as well as you do so I do appreciate it. But I can assure you that, as a typical Brit, my crippling modesty does prevent me from letting my feet get too far off the ground.

I tend to go for Pens from the 40's to early 60's and have a liking for pens with a unique filling system, like Parker Vacumatics and Sheaffer Vac fillers and Snorkels, in the modern world that would include the piston fillers from Montblanc and Pelikan etc.
