Whilst shopping in ASDA a few weeks ago I saw a pack of corn cobs in the pet food section, having seen on another forum a corn cob pen I thought I would splash out £1.50 and give it a try. So I stabilised the cobs in my vacuum chamber(converted pressure cooker) the results seemed fine, drilled one cob to make a cigar pen glued the tubes with epoxy resin, next day trimmed the ends square still all going well, mounted the blanks the mandrel and started to turn it, got it down to the last cut with no mishaps then on the last cut which could have only been a gnats whisker bits flew off in all directions which needless to say turned the air blue. I have now decided to leave the corn cobs to the little rodents they are meant for.

What a shame, don't give up though, isn't it worth another shot?

Yes, I agree with Jim, complete one and then put it to bed if you must, but I thrive on doing things I can't do, until I have done it:thumbs:

One time I was conversing with a guy and he said you cant weld so I thought who says so bought an arc welder concreted a bvery large steel post in the ground either side of a wide driveway and made a steel gate one piece, initially the welds looked like a chook had passed something but the welds improved the gate is still functioning well in another city, nothing ventured nothing gained mate.
