I started these on Friday, they needed to be finished by this afternoon because the couple they were for leave tomorrow and won't be back for a couple months. To make matters worse I broke my last end mill halfway through the last inlay piece, then I blew a blank to bits on the lathe through sheer stupidity. (Withdrew the tailstock after drilling but the Jacob's chuck stayed in the spinning blank, turning it to matchwood in less than a second.)

Necessity is the mother of invention, so as you can see I opted to simplify one of the inlays so I could use a thicker end mill, and filled the inlays rather than inserting wood plugs. Still came out okay, I think.

Light wood is Maple (which I got at the Southerners' meet up from - I think - Frankie), darker wood is Walnut.

Marvellous JJ David, Not likely to be mislaid so easily or borrowed when you went to great lengths and persevered making those two pens. Perfect gifts we are brought up as blokes with only one name and the ladies mostly take the opportunity to change part of their name it makes a great conversation piece as well.

Like them trust the new owners do as well.

Kind regards Peter.
