Well, I do seem to have started something.
I am sure you think you are enjoying yourselves, but you will never convince me that it is an enjoyable form of holiday or even a holiday at all.
Edie and I both love cooking, we are off to the Glasgow Good Food Show this weekend (staying in a hotel within walking distance of the SECC) but when we go on holiday we want someone else to do the cooking, make cups of tea and clear up afterwards and make the bed and clean the shower.
Spending the equivalent of a dozen or so foreign holidays on something that then has to be insured, stored for the 46 weeks of the year when it is not in use and then is charged site fees at the destination is not my idea of value for money. Nor do I wish to restrict my choice of holiday destinations to places I can drive to.
Slopping out has even been phased out in prisons nowadays, sitting in a deck chair in a field is not my idea of fun (if I wanted to I could go and sit in one of my farming friend's fields for free) and I could not live with the embarrassment of sitting at the front of a long line of irate road users with places to go and things to do so I would end up spending most of the time in lay-bys hiding my face.
I have lived in Northumberland for all of my 62 years so I know my way around it well enough to avoid the roads that are suitable for caravans (and the unsuitable ones they still insist on trying to use) so unless I need to travel up the A1 which is mostly avoidable forming a convoy will not purturb me at all.
So happy camping to you all, but I will stick with having a proper holiday thanks.
