'Modern cars and caravans have little problem maintaining 60mph on our single carriageway "A" roads and as long as they do so the only people they hold up are speedsters so they are helping the police to enforce the speed limits maybe?'


Totally agree with you Bob on virtually all you say, the only comment I would make to clarify a point. On single carriage A roads, vehicles towing a trailer can only do 50mph when the national speed limit (60) applies.


One further point I would add is even on motorways, most hold-ups are caused by one lorry trying to overtake another when their difference in speed is probably only 0.5mph and it can take many minutes and lots of miles to get by. This results in more or less all cars trying to squeeze into the 'fast' lane, even the slower cars. Not caravanners of course as they aren't allowed in the third lane of a three lane motorway.
