Finally got this bad boy finished tonight! Made from oak ans sapele. A mixture of side and end grain, a lot of gluing, planing and sanding. All finished with beeswax/mineral oil mixture. Actually getting paid for this one, so It's not going to the gallery, or the kitchen as the wife insists on calling it

Cheers

Slice of history in the making Brody one that got away from the wife quite an acheivement mate. From the first pic wondering at the combination the second pic explains everything in order ready for use. Very practical and eye catching.

thanks Peter. The rays in the side grain oak parts really shone through agains the sapele. Although I do admit I was having concerns about the contrast issues.

cheers mate

Looks good Brody, what finish is on it?
Cheers mate. I use a mineral oil / beeswax mix at a 2:1 ratio on a double boiler. The first coat goes on while it's still liquid and warm, followed by 2 - 3 coats rubbed in when the mixture has turned into a paste.
