I have been struggling for months to come up with a way to make a custom ("kitless") pen that allows for the use of wood. This one is a stabilized maple burl with Alumilite fittings. The body of the pen is sleeved with a brass tube. Then alumilite fittings were turned with a tenon. Boring and threading (inside and out) could then happen as usual. The cap is sleeved with alumilite in similar fashion. The pen then was finished with CA - the finish "fades" on the end fittings, but both the resin and the CA polish the same, so the end result seemed to work. I still need to do some thread polishing and a final buff, but this one's going to work! The pen features a Bock #5 nib and no clip or roll-stop (per customer request).
