Thanks Alan, I had to make the body of the pen twice; had almost finished turning the first one, when a piece of wood broke apart and it was a choice of repairing the blank or do it again. I chose the latter and made sure I had plenty of CA glue in between the bits.Leaps and bounds, Gary. leaps and bounds!
You will find that, with segmented pens, a few bits will ping off from time to time. I usually keep my turning area fairly clean so I can find them and glue them back in. Doesnt happen so often now ...the blanks that look a bit iffy will get the CA as you do.Thanks Alan, I had to make the body of the pen twice; had almost finished turning the first one, when a piece of wood broke apart and it was a choice of repairing the blank or do it again. All a learning experience Alan. You will find that, with segmented pens, a few bits will ping off from time to time. I usually keep my turning area fairly clean so I can find them and glue them back in. Doesnt happen so often now ...the blanks that look a bit iffy will get the CA as you do.
Yep, always have sanded the tubes and any other materials being glued in definitely have to be scuffed well.I sand all my tubes on a 80 grit bench sander to ensure the best possible glueing surface and I use a wire brush on my blank parts as well - i still get the odd blowout - that's part of the fun rightbut every little helps and bye the way that is a stunning pen
