I just know I am going to feel stupid... but you know when you get these shaped blanks...

1. Why are they that shape?
2. How do you use them?

I have borrowed this photo I saw on Instagram... I believe they are Taylors Mirfield ones but that’s not important I am just using them to ask the question

Hi Kevin, at a guess I would say they are like that so you can see what they look like when rounded. :thinks::thinks:

They are turned like that to show off the spalting, Burr or figuring mate.

Usually only done for advertising and not sent to the customer that way.

That said if they were sent that way then

Option 1 just mount them in the wood chuck and round off the square to make them round.
Option 2 Just use them as you would a square blank, drill them out, glue the tube in and then turn as normal.

They are just quickly turned blanks with a swipe of finish to give you an idea of what they would look like!
